HCTC Dental Clinic The Holmes County Training Center Dental Clinic’s mission is to provide basic, high quality dental services to individuals with disabilities and their families and Head Start children and their families. The Dental Clinic was started with a donation from the Graven family. The dental clinic opened up to the general public and anyone who wanted our services in 2010. We are the only County Board of DD program in Ohio which operates a dental clinic. No local tax dollars are used to support the dental clinic. The clinic rents their current space from the Training Center. We have written and received five grants to help improve the clinic and our services. The Austin-Bailey Foundation and the Sisters of Charity helped us with purchasing a digital X-ray machine in 2011. That was a $55,000.00 project. Since it serves individuals who do not qualify for services, the clinic has to be self-supporting. We have worked with Akron Children’s Hospital to provide dental care to individuals with bleeding disorders. The clinic accepts Medicaid and insurance and has a reduced fee schedule for those paying cash. Dr. Megan Nippert is our primary dentist and we now have Dr. Kathy Brisley-Sedon and Dr. Myriam Raber also helping us. Lori Day is our clinic manager and a dental assistant. Sue Hubler is our dental hygienist. They used to work in the school when the clinic was only open one day per week. It really helps our young children having people they know in a familiar place because the dentist’s chair can be a scary place. The clinic contracts with an anesthesiologist to come to the clinic when needed. Many of our children and adults need to be fully sedated in order to receive dental care. It used to be that families had to go to Columbus to get their children such specialized dental care before the clinic opened. The service is funded for disabled individuals by the Holmes County Association for Handicapped Citizens and a $50.00 family co-pay. We have children and adults with disabilities who come to us from New Philadelphia, Wooster, Mt. Vernon and Coshocton for dental care.
